Serve406 was born out of years of church collaboration in the Greater Missoula area – long before it became a statewide mission. In 2018, River of Life Church in East Missoula chose to celebrate its 10th anniversary not with a party, but with a large community-wide day of service. The impact was immediate. What began as a single church initiative quickly grew as other local churches asked to join, strengthening relationships and unity across the valley year after year. At the same time, other collaborative ministries—such as Youth for Christ and Soul Life—were actively serving and mobilizing followers of Christ throughout the region. In late 2022, representatives from roughly 15+ churches and ministries gathered to pray, dream, and plan. What if this wasn’t just one church’s service day—or even one city’s—but something God wanted to multiply across Montana?
That question marked a turning point.
What began as a vision for a Missoula-wide service day soon expanded into a statewide mission. Out of that collaboration, Serve Montana was born—later renamed Serve406 to establish a distinct identity and avoid confusion with a state government initiative.

In December 2024, Serve406 officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization, positioning it for continued statewide growth. We are extremely grateful for the role Youth for Christ served in our first years as the umbrella organization for Serve406.
Today, Serve406 continues to expand year by year. We dream of a future where 20,000 Montanans from thousands of churches across the state unite to serve their communities—together, as one Church.
Serve406 brings together churches with diverse backgrounds, theological perspectives, and spiritual practices. What unites us is our shared faith in Jesus Christ—His life, His message, His Deity, the salvation He offers and His call to love and serve others.
